چکیده

Parenteral administration of proteins/peptides requires repeated injections because of their extremely short biological half-life. Daily multiple injections are highly risky and require close medical supervision. Therefore, the delivery of proteins and peptides by routes other than parenteral route h s gained much attention in recent years. As a drug delivery route, nasal cavity offers several possible advantages. The nasal epithelium is highly vascularized and offers a relatively large surface area for drug absorption. In addition the porous endothelial basement membrane and the direct transport of absorbed drugs into the systemic circulation, avoids the hepatic Þ rst-pass effect present in peroral administration. Further since the nasal membrane posses lower enzymatic activity compared with the gastrointestinal tract and the liver1.

Development and in vitro evaluation of mucoadhesive microsphere carriers for intranasal delivery of betahistine dihydrochloride

The aim of the present work was to formulate and evaluate betahistine-loaded chitosan microspheres intended for nasal delivery with focus on their mucoadhesive properties. Betahistine-loaded chitosan microspheres were obtained via W/O emulsion solvent evaporation technique and were characterized for particle size, surphace morfology and entrapment efficiency. FTIR spectroscopy was carried out t...

Formulation and In Vitro Evaluation of Acyclovir Mucoadhesive Microspheres for Intravaginal Application

The purpose of the research was to formulate microspheres of acyclovir (ACV) using mucoadhesive polymers, sodium alginate and chitosan. Calcium chloride was used as the ionotropic gelling agent. Sodium alginate was crosslinked by calcium chloride leading to a slower release of the drug. Chitosan which is a cationic polymer interacted with sodium alginate, an anionic polymer, to form an interpol...
